Q1. What is the current state of ice thickening research?
A. Ocean Visions, a science-based, nonprofit conservation organisation, produced a roadmap that tracks the state of research across all organisations and institutions involved in Arctic sea ice thickening.
There are uncertainties surrounding the physical mechanism of ice thickening, technical feasibility, environmental and social risks and benefits, and large-scale governance.
Read more from Ocean Visions here as they set out the first-order priorities for this field of research.
Q2. How is Real Ice’s research contributing to scientific advancements in the field?
A. One of our core values is that our research remains open-source information.
Our work is contributing to the research and development priorities set out by Ocean Visions through conducting field studies on artificially thickened sea ice and its properties and behaviour.
Due to the scale and scope of our research, it is not currently possible to investigate Arctic-wide effects of sea ice thickening, but we are bringing forward important evidence from a localised area.
